Southern Tier Community Center (an entity of the Children's Home) is Hiring a Teacher Assistant Near Endicott, NY

The Southern Tier Community Center (an entity of the Children's Home) is looking for Teacher Assistants to join us in supporting children in our School Age Child Care Program!! We are looking to fill available positions at our Endicott, NY location and one position that would float between multiple locations.

Job Summary: The teacher assistant will work under direction of the School Age Child Care Director and the Site Supervisor. The teacher assistant will provide support with all program activities including but not limited to arts & crafts, games, sports & other physical activities, group activities, quiet & homework time, team building, and learning centers. The assistants are expected to create and maintain an atmosphere which is beneficial to the physical and emotional health of the youth. Teacher Assistants will also guide and direct the children in care and participate in assessments of the progress of each youth. All staff are mandated reporters.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Provide Support, encouragement, dignity, and discipline for the children.
  • Provide opportunities for growth and moral character through challenging activities, education and entertainment.
  • Encourage and enable children to develop self-help skills, clean up after themselves, and participate in the maintenance of facility where appropriate.
  • Assure compliance with procedures in cases of suspected child abuse/neglect. Ensure discretion with regard to these situations and nay other personal or private information regarding children and families.
  • Participate in required child care training programs as required in areas of: School-age Regulations, regulations and procedures in Child Abuse and Maltreatment, Child Abuse and Maltreatment identification and prevention, record maintenance and management, safety and security procedures, program development and nutrition and health needs of children (30 hours every two (2) years are required and provided)
  • Assure that signs of illness, health problems, or potentially dangerous situations are reported to SACC Director and recorded on the Daily Health Check Form.
  • Pay special attention to children with dietary restrictions and those who potentially require medication (administered by family) while in our care.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED & one (1) year experience working with children under the age of 13 required.
  • Some College credits in relevant subject preferred.
  • Positive work history and life experience may be considered to supplement work experience.
  • Valid driver’s license required and must be insurance liability requirement throughout employment.

Relevant Knowledge & Essential Skills:

Must demonstrate the ability to work effectively with clients, families, staff, and community contacts with diverse backgrounds and life situations. Capacity to participate in the principles and practices of the inter-disciplinary team approach. Good verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills required. Must be creative and able to perform duties under limited supervision. Excellent time management skills and the ability to manage more than one project required. Working knowledge of computers required.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $15.30 - $16.05 per hour
